Fiji the heart of the South Pacific!

Fiji is a very popular destination that Australians like to travel to and being in the tourism industry I am glad I have broadened my travel experience in the South Pacific further.

Airlines

Fijian Airways was a nice airline to fly. The seating was as comfortable as can be, food nice and service was good. Again, better than Qantas.

Accommodations

Resort 1.Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay

This resort is located on the west coast of the mainland. The perfect side to be for sunsets anywhere you are holidaying. The resort is approximately 43 minutes drive from Nadi airport.

The entrance and reception are quite grand and the staff were hospitable throughout the resort. Every time someone walked passed us, we were greeted with a welcoming “Bula”, meaning “Hello”.

This resort is gorgeous with tropical flowers and the waterfront bures are all situated over the crystal clear blue lagoon.

Our Beachfront bure (villa) situated on the Momi Bay lagoon was perfect. The room is narrow in length with a humongous bed, living area, bathroom including a bath facing the sea, the rain shower and toilet separately enclosed by glass doors and lastly a nice patio deck outside the bure with chairs and a table.

Happy hour drinks are okay, I found I always preferred the non-happy hour cocktails here.

Swimming in the Lagoon was refreshing and it’s always great to enjoy fresh sea water over chlorinated swimming pools. However, we did enjoy our time at the Main pool and the sunset pool. The sunset pool is the best with age restriction +18 and there is also a whirlpool to enjoy til late in the evening.

Activities provided at the resort are: boating, jet-skiing, kayaking, outdoor tennis courts, volleyball and you can hire snorkeling gear.

Fish feeding takes place daily after breakfast, always check the notice board the night before.

Also, check the daily board for Live Music in the evenings. A nice way to unwind after dinner with a local band.

Lagoon House Bar is a nice casual place for lunch or dinner by the pool.  The nachos and quesadillas were flavorful.

Make sure to reserve a table at Fish Bar for a unique dining experience in the evening surrounded by sand at the outside tables.  The seafood is heavenly accompanied by stunning sunsets and panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.

Hotel 2. InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa

This resort is located on the South West Coast of Fiji’s main island on Natadola Beach. We stayed in the Intercontinental garden view room that also had an oceanview glimpse.

Our room surprisingly for a 5-star hotel was not serviced properly. The bath and toilet were unacceptable and something I have never encountered. I rang for servicing and the Housekeeping Manager Elizabeth apologized.

Elizabeth was compassionate and whilst we dined she arranged a gorgeous bath for us, spoilt us with chocolates, a bottle of Chandon and the room was decked out in flowers.

The resort has 2 pools, one for kids and 1 for Adults only. The Infinity pool is a great way to relax and suppose to be adult only, however, do not expect parents to be considerate of others here. Pretty disappointing considering the kids’ pool is massive.

The walk along Natolda beach is nice except for the continuous begging from the locals to buy things.

Sunset drinks at Kama Lounge are nice and here you can enjoy watching a local Fijian dance performance and the fire show.

As this is a remote area, your only options for dining are at the resort or catch a 1-hour taxi to town.

Lunch at Toba Bar & Grill by the pool area has to be one of the worse dining experiences I have ever had.  Pitiful casual meals and shocking cocktails not at all what I would expect from a 5-star hotel. My nachos had minimal con carne and just a smidgen of cheese melted on the plate. Jame’s chicken schnitzel looked bland with no sauce.

Sanasana restaurant in the resort was good,  serving delicious Asian Cuisine from Buffet or A La Carte. We chose Al A Carte.

Navo Resturant has a beautiful setting overlooking the lagoon. Our last evening, we took in a final Fijian sunset at Navo where we found the staff friendly and the food of a higher standard.

I highly recommend trying to nab a cabana in front of Navo restaurant, we had a nice private afternoon by the beachside with our own music and cocktails. Walked along the sand bar and swam in the bay.  Here, we also enjoyed days in the lagoon with our pool floaties.

Dinner and Drinks in Denarau Port

Indigo Indian Restaurant –  Located in Port Denarau, this restaurant is a blend of Indian and Southeast Asian cuisines. The service and spicy food were great here. A nice restaurant to enjoy by the seaside watching sunset at the outside tables.

Hard Rock Cafe – Enjoyed sunset happy hours drinks here after our day trip at Cloud 9. Good spot to listen to local bands.

Mojito Bar at Cardo’s Cafe – Great bar for after dinner drinks. Enjoyed a couple of cocktails here after a quick look around Port Denarau shops.

Activities

Malamala Beach Club – Our timing was impeccable. This newly created beach club had just opened before our arrival. What a piece of luck.

We visited the island twice by the South Seas 25-minute ferry from the Denarau port. The ferry ride is lovely, however, if you are staying further away from the port it is a bit of a journey but I still recommend the day trip.

Here you will find a unique dining menu. The cocktails and food are delicious and do not forget to try the 7 bar bonus curated cocktails.

There’s plenty of time to snorkel, walk around the tiny island and relax on a pool lounge by the Infinity pool. Good luck grabbing a seat!

Hire a Cabana. We did on our 2 visits to the Beach Club and brought our own speaker to play music in our Cabana.

You will love spending a day out here & more likely like us, will return.

Cloud 9 – Love the concept of this floating bar. We caught a ferry from Port Denarau with pre-purchased online tickets and thought we would arrive first but we found it was best to buy tickets directly from Cloud 9 as they arrive first and get to choose the best seats on Cloud 9 before other speed boats arrive.

Pizza and cocktails are a must. You might find yourself eating a whole pizza by yourself, they’re that good.

If you don’t have your own snorkel gear, Cloud 9 supply it. Bring a waterproof camera or waterproof housing for your mobile you’ll be thankful that you did, the fish come in masses here.

Another fun day out at sea.
