Surprise, we’re in Hamilton Island too!

Hamilton Island again, you say! We just can not seem to stay away, 6 months later we were back on the 17th January 2020 for 5 nights. We love the scenery and fresh air plus the buggies.

My bestie Emma, her family and our mutual friends we’re all there and when originally asked we could not commit. A few months after Emma booked we decided to book this once in a lifetime holiday whilst my bestie was there. Surprising Emma in Hamilton Island seemed like a no brainer.

The initial surprise plan was to float along past Emma in the main pool but on our arrival, it rained. Instead, after check-in we drove past our friends in our buggy along the Marina, Emma’s reaction was priceless.  It is a moment we will never forget.

Flight

Highly recommend flying Jetstar to Hamilton on a direct flight, it is always a smooth flight. Food and beverage can be purchased onboard.

Accommodation

James and I stayed at the Whitsunday Apartments again, this time Lagoon Apartment 104. This stunning 2 large ensuite bedroom apartment overlooks Catseye Bay. The view is breathtaking from the Living Room/ Kitchen and main bedroom. Both bedrooms have flat screen TVs. A valet pick up and return to and from Hamilton Island airport or Marina was included and a complimentary 4 seater electric buggy at the apartment was included for the duration of our stay.

Champagne on arrival was the best way to start our check in with Emma.

Pools

Guests staying at the Hibiscus, Lagoon and Frangipani apartments have exclusive use of each apartment blocks pools. And also have access to the two main pools on the beach .

Main Pool – This pool is my favourite with the swim up bar, music and live music on a Saturday. Its the biggest pool on the island. Good luck scoring pool chairs, best thing to do is start your day early.

Hibiscus Pool Adjacent and 2 minute walking distance to Catseye Beach, this pool is for Hibiscus Guests only. A nice pool to chill under cover and also offers a spa that unfortunately is quite popular.

Sails Pool – Deep infinity pool located in front of the Sails Restaurant with fantastic views overlooking Catseye Beach. Float along this pool during sunset, not as many folks swimming then.

Bougainvillea Pool – A great family medium size pool on the beachfront. Always too busy for us, although, a perfect pool for parents to keep a watchful eye on their kids.

Dining

Bob’s Bakery – A regular stop on every trip for Bob’s delicious pies. To avoid disappointment head to Bob’s early morning, food favourites sell out fast.

Coffee wait can be long but you get better service here than the Marina Cafe.

Marina Cafe – First part of our day, you can’t go wrong with a egg and bacon muffin especially if slightly hungover!

Marina Tavern  – A casual pub type dining area with a view of the Marina. Open from 12 pm to late, no bookings just walk-in service. I can not seem to stay away from the Meaty Nachos. This Tavern is quite popular so try and get there early for dinner.

Tako – A modern Mexican restaurant located across from the Marina giving a selection of coastal ceviche, to the Oaxaca mole, the Mayan cuisine of the Yucatán Peninsula and popular tacos.

Manta Ray – Located right on the Mariner, it is the perfect spot to watch the sunrise for drinks or dinner. My prawn linguine was superb and the service for our large group was good. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for dinner.

Coca Chu – This hawker-style street food restaurant offers cuisine from South East Asia. I highly recommend the salt and pepper squid w red nahm jim & herbs, crispy chicken wings w lime leaf coriander & house sweet chilli, massaman curry w braised beef cheek kipfler potato & pickled cucumber, wagyu beef stir-fry w black pepper rice noodle broccolini & shimeji mushroom and crispy pork belly stir-fry w sticky black vinegar chinese broccoli & oyster mushroom.

Expect to walk away with a hefty bill as the cocktails are unique here too.

See and Do

One Tree Hill – The best location for sensational Whitsunday sunsets. The lookout here can get quite overcrowded at sunset so make sure to enjoy the view during the day too. Bring a picnic rug or head over to the One Tree Hill bar for a $12 cocktail.

An enjoyable Hamilton Island holiday with close friends had and another booked with Emma now postponed from 2021 to 2022. Looking forward to Round Two memorable times in Hamilton Island with Emma and family.
