Our first overseas trip in 2016 was to Mauritius with stopovers in Broome and Perth.
On the 26th July, our flight to Broome was bumpy, thankfully I had James trying to distract me with conversation. The flight seemed to take longer than it should have and we arrived an hour later. Due to the trade winds, flights going to WA are an hour longer than flying the opposite direction.
Our 5 minute taxi from the airport to the Mangrove hotel cost $7.00. A transfer is not necessary to book unless you are not staying within Broome itself.
Even though we arrived at the hotel early we were lucky to check into our room. It was so hot up to 30 degrees and apparently not the normal temperature for this period. We explored the hotel then walked to town for our usual water supplies.

The Mangrove hotel is either a 10 minute walk or 3 minute drive to Chinatown where you will find Coles express, cafes and your basic needs. After a nice short walk to Chinatown which is not anything like a typical Chinatown you would expect we headed back to the Mangrove hotel for a sunset dinner. The food is nice and the view of Dampier creek and the Indian Ocean is amazing at sunset.
Both being sick we ended up falling asleep to a movie just after 6.30pm.

The following morning Wednesday 27th July, I woke early to catch the sunrise at 5.50am and what a gorgeous sunrise it was. Unfortunately, James was very sick and missed it. Early morning, we did a 1 hour gym session at the Mangrove hotel. The gym has all the basic equipment one would need and was perfect for me. After a great gym session we took in some sun rays by the pool before our kayak transfer came to pick us up.
Broome Kayak Adventure picked James and I up at 2.40pm at the hotel for a Sunset tour at Roebuck Bay. For intermediate / advanced kayakers the tour was quite underwhelming as the other kayakers were very slow and the tour only went around the corner from the ferry terminal to Roebuck Bay. We stopped twice along the beaches in Roebuck Bay and took a few photos around the caves and rocks. The tour included crackers and cordial juice as snacks only.
Once sunset begun it definitely made the tour worthwhile and was truly an amazing experience to see the sunset on the west coast of Australia. I was so thankfully to have seen both a sunrise and sunset in 1 day, when can you ever say that!

Our evening concluded with a nice dinner at the Mangrove hotel.
Thursday 28th, we started our day with a 40 minute session at the gym before heading to Cable beach on a 10 minute bus ride.
Cable beach is a 22 km long beach with amazing white soft sand. After a lovely morning swimming at Cable beach we stopped at Chinatown shops for our morning coffee at Green Mango Café. The service and coffee are good here and the café can get quite busy later in the day.

Friday 29th July, Karma 1V cruises picked us up at the hotel for a whale and sunset full day tour. The full day tour was quite long especially without our swim wear but the whales made it all the worth while. The whales were so entertaining and came right up to our catamaran and swam under the catamaran too. It is a day I will never forget and the afternoon finished with a gorgeous cable beach sunset. We could not have asked for anything more than that. Canapés provided were delicious and drinks you had to buy however we bought our own vodka and I got a tad tipsy.
We finished our evening back at the Mangrove Hotel for another early dinner of yummy burgers and rosemary fries.
Friday 29th July, we woke at 6.30am for a 40 minute gym session before the Broome Hovercraft tour picked us up at 8.40am. The morning was pretty windy so we hung out at the hovercraft home base for about 30 minutes longer then boarded the hovercraft.
The hovercraft Scenic and Prehistoric tour took us past the Mangrove hotel and the mangroves to the dinosaur prints at Gauntheaeume point. It was fun gliding across the ocean. No need for sea sickness tablets on this craft.
After an hour on the hovercraft we were driven back to The Mangrove hotel where we enjoyed a nice salad and a few wines and watched the hovercraft after us go by.

Mid afternoon we went to Cable Beach and enjoyed some swimming and a few drinks whilst taking in the gorgeous sunset.

After sunset we refreshed and dined at Rambutan at Cable Beach Resort and sat by the pool dining area. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. Expensive dining but definitely worth enjoying on our final evening. To avoid disappointment it is wise to pre-booked like we did.

Our evening continued back at the Mangrove hotel.
The following morning which was to be our last morning in Broome, I caught a glimpse of another sunrise. Sunrises and sunsets are superb in Broome and something you would want to experience everyday.
Next stop Perth.
